Alessandro Marianantoni is a researcher at the Center for Research in Engineering, Media and Performance (REMAP) at the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television. He is Director of the Centro Sperimentale MEDIARS in central Italy. As author, project director, interaction designer or developer he has worked on media installations including: Medusa at the CABOOM Design Festival in Santa Monica, Zeroglyphisssssss! at the OTIS College of Art and Design, Il Castello Sensibile (The Responsive Castle) in Contigliano, Italy, Juncture at the Los Angeles Historic Park, Quartieri della Memoria (Neighborhoods of Memory) at REMAP. For such cultural projects, he has obtained both public and private funding. He earned a degree in computer science at the Universita’ de L’Aquila with a thesis at USC’s Integrated Media Systems Center. At the Universita’ di Firenze at the School of Architecture he tutored students’ thesis and worked as interaction designer on a renovation plan of the historic city of Firenze.

At REMAP, Marianantoni was lead developer for the Advanced Technology for Cinematography project and is currently developing for the NSF-supported SPASES project, to promote conceptual understanding in elementary science to six to eight year-olds. Since 2007, he has working on the design of an interactive media system for Alzheimer patients’ support in healthcare facilities. A first release of this installation is deployed and working in Napa Valley, California.

VIDYUT SAMANTA (MS 2005, Computer Science) received his Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from Purdue University in May 2002. During his years at Purdue, he was a research assistant with the Secure Software Systems Lab and worked on projects involving Compiler Construction and Programming Languages.

Vids Samanta earned a Master of Computer Science degree in September of 2005 from UCLA. During his course at UCLA he worked on projects in the Wireless and Mobile Networking field under Professor Jens Palsberg and Professor Songwu Lu.

He is currently working on the Blogger Project, Advanced Technology for Cinematography, Urban Sensing and Slogviz with REMAP. In his spare time, he enjoys wind-surfing, sky-diving, flying, kayaking and trekking.

JONATHAN SNIPES has a bachelor’s degree in theater with an emphasis in sound design from the University of California Los Angeles’ (UCLA) school of Theater, Film, and Television. Currently Jonathan works with UCLA’s Center for Research in Engineering, Media, and Performance (REMAP) as a sound designer and programmer exploring new possibilities with media and performance. With REMAP, he primarily is a co-developer of TheaterMax, an open-source set of software tools for theater sound designers. He also works with UCLA’s Experiential Technology Center (ETC) as a sound designer for virtual reality environments, namely creating the sound components for computer modeled historical architectural recreations. Jonathan is a founding member of the eminent Los Angeles theatre company, Explosions in Act Two, Inc. His professional sound design and composition credits include Matt Shakman’s production of Nocturne by Adam Rapp at the Black Dahlia Theatre, Larry Biederman’s production of Crumble by Sheila Callaghan at Moving Arts, and Michael Hackett’s production of Meditations on Virginity by Witold Gombrowicz, which was seen at the National Theatre in Warsaw, Poland. In 2003, he was nominated for a Los Angeles Stage Alliance Ovation Award for his work on Jose-Luis Valenzuela’s production of Evelina Fernandez’ Dementia, with the Latino Theatre Company.
